A Covenant Keeping God
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. "And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly." Genesis 17:1-2
"And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18
We can trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. We can delight ourselves in the LORD, and He shall give us the desires of our heart. We can commit our way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth our righteousness as the light and our justice as the noonday because He is a faithful covenant keeping God.
And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, "Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 'You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to Myself. 'Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 'And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel." So Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before them all these words which the LORD commanded him. Exodus 19:3-7
'You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God. You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am the LORD. 'If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them, then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. Your threshing shall last till the time of vintage, and the vintage shall last till the time of sowing; you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely. I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid; I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land. You will chase your enemies, and they shall fall by the sword before you. Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; your enemies shall fall by the sword before you. 'For I will look on you favorably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you. You shall eat the old harvest, and clear out the old because of the new. I will set My tabernacle among you, and My soul shall not abhor you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people. Leviticus 26:1-12
"Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; Deuteronomy 7:9
The new covenant, taught by Jeremiah in the Old Testament and by Jesus, Paul, and the writer of the Book of Hebrews in the New Testament, is the renewal, restoration, and completion of the covenant God made with Abraham. Consequently, no such thing as a "new" covenant exists. Hence for those who are of the seed of Abraham, God has a covenant to be their God, to bless them, to heal them, to deliver them, to prosper them, to fight for them and to give them power to get wealth! For those who fear Him, the Lord will show them His covenant (Psalm 25:14)! He will not break His covenant with them nor alter the word that has gone out of His lips (Psalm 89:4). He remembers His covenant forever for His word is true:
He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth. He remembers His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac, And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan As the allotment of your inheritance," When they were few in number, Indeed very few, and strangers in it. When they went from one nation to another, From one kingdom to another people, He permitted no one to do them wrong; Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes, Saying, "Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm." Psalm 105:7-15
The works of His hands are verity and justice; All His precepts are sure. They stand fast forever and ever, And are done in truth and uprightness. He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome is His name. Psalm 111:7-9
Yes God will always bless His chosen ones, His anointed ones, His treasured possessions, the apple of His eyes who call upon Him and put their trust in Him alone! He will not forget them because they are graven on the palm of His nail scarred hands. He is ever mindful of His covenant with His chosen ones! But a covenant has obligations of both sides in order to be valid and not void. We must obey God’s voice and do according to all that He commands us. God’s word is unchanging:
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, "Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem; "and say to them, 'Thus says the LORD God of Israel: "Cursed is the man who does not obey the words of this covenant "which I commanded your fathers in the day I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, 'Obey My voice, and do according to all that I command you; so shall you be My people, and I will be your God,'"that I may establish the oath which I have sworn to your fathers, to give them 'a land flowing with milk and honey,' as it is this day." ' " And I answered and said, "So be it, LORD."
Then the LORD said to me, "Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: 'Hear the words of this covenant and do them. 'For I earnestly exhorted your fathers in the day I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, until this day, rising early and exhorting, saying, "Obey My voice." 'Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but everyone followed the dictates of his evil heart; therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but which they have not done.' " Jeremiah 11:1-7
Because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ God has made a new covenant where He puts His law in our minds, and writes it on our hearts; and He is our God, and we are His people. The new covenant was cut between God and Jesus and it cannot be broken. As a result of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, the covenant has been extended to us. By making us a joint-heir with Him, Jesus allows us to share in His covenant relationship with the Father. Jesus, the last Adam, took back man’s authority and dominion. God gave Jesus to die for our sins. When Jesus said on the cross, “It is finished,” He was referring to the Abrahamic covenant. God promised Abraham that his seed will be blessed and that through his seed all nations shall be blessed.
(Blessing is a key word in the Abrahamic covenant. It includes: Conferring and transference of beneficial power. Fertility in men. livestock. and land. Continued growth of succeeding generations. Peace. Security from enemies. Good fortune. Well-being. Posterity. Liberation from vain toil. Liberation from carefraught wandering. Liberation from base servitude. Liberation from destructive choas of the nations. Political unity. Harmony with neighbors. Victory over enemies. Abundance in the kneading trough.and Protection. Blessings are: Unconditional. Irrevocable. Permanent.)
Jesus is the Seed! Jesus entered hell where death, hell and corruption couldn’t hold Him there. He took back the keys to death, hell and the grave and made it possible for us to partake of the covenant He has with the Father.
Jesus has all power and authority in heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18). Since we were raised with Him, we have all power and authority as well (Ephesians 2:4-7). As a part of the body of Christ, we have been given the authority to declare what is lawful and unlawful in this earth (Matthew 16:18-19). We have been given authority to permit or to forbid things on the earth—even over death (Matthew 18:18-19). We can exercise our power over the Devil (Luke 10:19). Yes, all the promises of God belong to all descendants of Abraham’s descendants (Galatians 3:13-16). We possess the promises of God by right of inheritance through Jesus (Galatians 3:29). As a result belief in Jesus gives us life through His name and authority over the Enemy (John 20:31). Our mindset must align itself with God’s Word and not walk in the flesh, or think carnally. We don’t have put up with whatever the Devil throws at us; God’s Word says that believers have the authority to tell the Devil to flee and to do the works Jesus did:
"And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Matthew 16:19
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. John 14:12
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. James 4:6-10
Everything we need has been made available to us through Jesus who is our all sufficient one (Romans 5:1; Romans 6:23; Romans 11:36; Ephesians 2:7). We have power (authority) over the power (ability) of demonic forces (Luke 10:19). Although we cannot stand against the Enemy in our own power (Ephesians 6:10) but our authority is through Jesus. Hence we can command the devil to cease all His attacks against us through our authority that is in the name of Jesus. We can demand the Devil submit to the Word, to loose his hold and to stop his operations against us and our loved ones. The Enemy doesn’t want us to use our right of the New Covenant of Faith to demand, forbid and permit but God’s word is unchanging:
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. John 14:12-14
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:11-13
Yes we don’t have to tolerate sickness, diseases, poverty, lack, oppression or depression but we can take authority over it. We can do what God’s word commands us to do;
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. Matthew 28:18-20
And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. Mark 16:15-20
