GIVES LIFE

 The Holy Spirit

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" Luke 11:13

And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:28

In today’s pressure filled society with all its problems and tribulations, more than ever we need the gifts of the Spirit and God’s fresh anointing so that the gifts and fruits of the Spirit might be manifested in our lives and circumstances. We need to learn to listen intently to God’s divine voice and do accordingly to what He speaks. We need not only to walk in the Spirit but to experience Him as a person. We need to be strong in the Lord and the power of His might. God’s word is unchanging:

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-  and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,  for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6:10-20

Too many Christians don’t know the word of God which is the sword of the Spirit and as a result they are deceived by the enemy and others.  Then many of those who know the word of God don’t know the Spirit and hence don’t know how to properly wield the word of God against the enemy or how to pray with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. As a result many are not victorious in life because they have not appreciated that He has been give to be to us our Victor and all that Jesus was to the disciples when He walked the face of the earth as the Son of Man and the Son of God.

It is also a fact that the Word of God with out the Spirit will make a person dry up. The Spirit without the Word of God will make a person blow up. The Word of God and the Spirit will make a person grow up and ensure that he follows after and does justice and righteous. The Spirit and the Word of God will bring total and complete healing and deliverance to a person, body, soul and spirit! He quickens our mortal body and renews our strength when we are weak. Through the Spirit, God gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength' (Isaiah 40:29). The Spirit is a person that most of all in this universe we need to know and appreciate as our friends, guide, counselor, helper, wisdom and strength. He can and will do wonderful things in us and for us especially things that are impossible. He is the One who came upon Mary and overshadowed her and enabled her to give birth to Jesus Christ. He is the One who anoints us and changes us and enables us to do the impossible. God’s word is unchanging:

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.  The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him,  The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might,  The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. His delight is in the fear of the LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,  Nor decide by the hearing of His ears; But with righteousness He shall judge the poor,  And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Isaiah 11:1-4

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.  Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.  And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

Yes, we need the power, comfort, wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and wisdom that the Holy Spirit give us. We need Him and all that He can give more than life itself! He is the pear of great price who reveals Jesus in us and through us. And no matter what it costs us or what we have to go through we need the friendship and fellowship of the Holy Spirit continually for He is the breath of life and the Spirit of Truth!  As Psalmist David prayed and said do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me by your generous Spirit. (Psalm 51:11-12) so should this be our daily prayer. For in the presence of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit is where miracles happen. Miracles and the Holy Spirit go together. You cannot have one of them without the other.  We should hunger and thirst after the Holy Spirit until we are filled to overflow. Until He runs out from us and bless all that we meet. So we truly will be a living epistle read and known by all men! Yes, there is nothing that we need more in life than more of the Holy Spirit. We need a lot more than we presently have and experience.  We need a great and mighty Baptism of love and power that will utterly transform and change us to be all that we should be and to achieve all that we could achieve. God’s word is unchanging:

Thus says the LORD who made you  And formed you from the womb, who will help you:  'Fear not, O Jacob My servant;  And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.  For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring; Isaiah 44:4

Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, "Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, my lord."  So he answered and said to me:  "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:  'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' Says the LORD of hosts.  'Who are you, O great mountain?  Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone  With shouts of "Grace, grace to it!" ' " Zechariah 4:5-7

One of the benefits from being friends with the Holy Spirit is that He brings real comfort. Yes, God trusting ones obtain joy and gladness as they draw water from the wells of salvation and sorrow and sighing flee away.  A wounded spirit inflicts unbearable afflictions, and a broken spirit (sad, worried, stressed, depressed, anxious) causes disease but the Holy Spirit anoints with joy and gladness to give a merry heart which wards off sickness. Yes, the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10).   Another great attribute of the Holy Spirit is that enables us to experience and know the love of God (Romans 5:5) and enables us to walk in love fulfilling the first commandment to love God with all our heart, soul and mind and the second commandment  to love our neighbor (Matthew 22:37-39).  Without the help of the Holy Spirit we cannot love God or our neighbor as we should. And failure in this area leads to failure in other areas. He enables us to forgive others and to pray for those who despitefully use us (Matthew 5:44). With out love our faith will not work (Galatians 5:6) or be profitable to us. God’s word is unchanging:

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

The Holy Spirit enables us to be full of peace and joy and to pursue holiness and to avoid becoming defiled by a root of bitterness or fornication. God’s word is unchanging:

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;  lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears. Hebrews 12:14-17

The Holy Spirit not only gives life to our bodies (Romans 8:11) but He brings things to our remembrance especially the word of God and gives us a mouth and wisdom which all our adversaries are not able to contradict or resist (Luke 21:15). We literally cannot leave home without dependence on the Holy Spirit or you will not be successful in the battles of life.  We need the wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, and knowledge that He gives. God’s word is unchanging:

"Then the Spirit of the LORD will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. 1 Samuel 10:6

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors-not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:12-14
