YOUR REAR GUARD

The LORD Is Merciful And Gracious

The LORD is merciful and gracious,  Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.  He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. Psalm 103:8-9

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:13-16

Some people think that “Jesus loves me” is the great expression in the bible, but for me it’s “The LORD is merciful and gracious,  slow to anger, and abounding in mercy!”  We all need mercy and grace from our kind and gracious Father for the battles in life and the storms we go through! And mercy and grace sometimes makes a difference between heaven  or hell,  life or destruction,  health or sickness,  prosperity or poverty,  or plenty or lack. And the Psalmist tells us about God that:

Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, 33:19 To deliver their soul from death,  And to keep them alive in famine. Psalm 33:18-19

He shall send from heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah God shall send forth His mercy and His truth. Psalm 57:3

Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His mercy from me! Psalm 66:20

For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; 103:12 As far as the east is from the west,  So far has He removed our transgressions from us.  As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those who fear Him. Psalm 103:11-12

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Psalm 136:1

The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy. Psalm 147:11

In ourselves in many negative circumstances especially a terminal disease, the breakdown of a marriage, the loss of a job,  or disharmony in a family, we cannot do much but God can do everything for He is after all a Savior, Redeemer, Healer, Deliverer, Provider, Rock, Refuge and High Tower! And no storm is bigger than God. His word is unchanging:

On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side."  Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him.  And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"  Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.  But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?"  And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!" Mark 4:35-41

"I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; "that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them. Deuteronomy 30:10-20

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,  looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2

Life and blessings come from choosing and loving the Lord your God and obeying His voice and not doing your thing or seeking things! We look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who has overcome the world and won the victory and will give us victory in all things! We look unto God who is a God of Miracles to do things just like Apostle Peter did:

Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.  And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple;  who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.  And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us."  So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.  Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk."  And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.  So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them-walking, leaping, and praising God.  And all the people saw him walking and praising God.  Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon's, greatly amazed.  So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: "Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?  "The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go. "But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,  "and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. "And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. Acts 3:1-16

It’s that faith in Jesus name, not in our own power or godliness, which produces miracles in our lives! All kinds of miracles spiritual, physical, financial and emotional because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever! Miracles come from a God of miracles who loves to give us miracles because loving and giving is part of His nature and miracles are very easy for Him to do!  His word is unchanging:

Fools, because of their transgression, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.  Their soul abhorred all manner of food,  And they drew near to the gates of death.  Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them,  And delivered them from their destructions. Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!  Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving,  And declare His works with rejoicing.  Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters, They see the works of the LORD, And His wonders in the deep. For He commands and raises the stormy wind, Which lifts up the waves of the sea. They mount up to the heavens, They go down again to the depths; Their soul melts because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits' end. Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven. Psalm 107:17-30
