IN THE SPIRIT

 Supplication In The Spirit

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints- and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6:14-20

Evangelical Christians of most persuasions don’t pray in the Spirit (in tongues) and many so called Pentecostals don’t pray in tongues on a daily bases even though all of the New Testament was written by tongue speakers. Then they wonder why they have no power and why there are no manifestation of the Gifts of the Spirit. Apostle Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 14:5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, 14:18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all, and  14:39  do not forbid to speak with tongues.

Speaking in tongues is not a sign of spirituality, holiness or righteousness but an important way of getting into the Spirit and allowing the gifts of the Spirit to manifest themselves in the life of a believer so that they can do the greater works that Jesus promised:

"And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."  So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.  And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. Mark 16:17-20

Those who reject praying in the Spirit, in tongues, or don’t understand its importance do themselves and others much harm! And if they are in error about praying, living and walking in the Spirit, they are in error about many other things especially since they cannot hear or discern the voice of God on a daily basis!

God who is no respecter of persons and loves all His children equally desires to  use them in the ministry of the gifts of the Spirit and so they can see the down trodden lifted up by the healing and miracle gifts. He desires that they bear much fruit and walk as the original apostle lead by His Spirit. But He cannot do this if they reject praying in the Spirit or praying in tongues!

Evangelist/Pastor Gordon Williams http://gordwilliams.com/  writes

In fact, tongues and all of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are signs of spirituality, holiness and righteousness.  The Greek word for spirituality is pneumatikos which means the presence of the Holy Spirit,  the Baptism of the Holy Spirit brings the “Holiness of God into our physical bodies and begins the process of “sanctification” or to frame another word the process of holy-ization which is the process of being “transformed” (Rom. 12: 2).  The Greek word translated as transformed is the word from which we get the word “metamorphosis” which is a process which changes a lower level of life into a higher level which is to develop the character of Jesus in us called “the fruit of the Spirit” (Gal. 5: 22 – 23).  This process of sanctification proceeds every time we use the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 12: 3 – 8).  The result is that we become and are “the righteousness of God” (2 Cor. 5: 21; Eph. 4: 24) which means that we have a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit.

The “signs following” and Gifts of the Holy Spirit are public proof of the right kind of spirituality (there is another so-called bad or wrong form spirituality (psyckikos whose source is our human spirit/soul created by sin and having fellowship with demons or worshipping other gods).   Every time we pray in tongues it is proof that the Holy Spirit is working in us and changing us and changing us through the process of sanctification.  Whenever we cooperate with the Holy Spirit in witnessing and doing ministry by using the Gifts of the Holy Spirit we are living proof that of the right kind spirituality, God’s Holiness and righteousness.

Whenever people talk about spirituality, holiness and righteousness, we have to insist upon defining exactly what they mean.  Most often, they are describing the wrong spirituality which is the result of the “works of the flesh” (Gal. 5: 19 – 20) and explain to them about the right spirituality which requires salvation and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.  We can see the wrong kind of spirituality in people like Todd Bentley and others who are dishonest and excuse their works of the flesh.  Praise the Lord we are not like those!  We enjoy all that the Holy Spirit wants to do in us we can do the same works as Jesus (Jn. 14: 12).  Isn’t it exciting!

Now it’s true that we, our family and our friends by the stripes that wounded Jesus  all are healed, healthy, and whole both physically and emotionally. But prayer, especially praying in the Spirit makes a legal truth become an experiential reality in the current time of life including complete restoration in every area of life in Jesus name. Through prayer we can see every single cell in the body is operating properly the way God created it to and that every single cell would bless the Lord. Through prayer we can see the life of Jesus rising up big on the inside of everyone and that they shall live and proclaim the works of the Lord. Through prayer we can cast all our cares upon the Lord, knowing that it is safe in His loving hands and that He loves all of us so much and He always has our best interest at heart and He is the God of all grace! His word is unchanging:

He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.  He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.  But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:  who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.   And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.' " And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:10-17

After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased.  John 6:1-2

Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;  and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.  Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for  "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."  Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.  But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.  To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:2-11

There is nothing that Jesus Christ, Who is the same yesterday, today and forever, cannot do for those who trust Him including healing a diseased body, a broken heart, a broken relationship or broken homes! Cancer or some terminal sickness, depression, fears, demons, physical infirmities, or financial shortages are not greater than God who has created all things by His word and sustains everything by His word! The One, Who took five barley loaves and two small fish, gave thanks and distributed them to the disciples who then to five thousand men besides women and children, is still a great and wonderful Miracle Worker! And "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God (Luke 18:27)." He is still a God of victory who gives victory and good things to His trusting ones. His word is unchanging:

"My heart rejoices in the LORD; my horn is exalted in the LORD. I smile at my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation. "No one is holy like the LORD,  For there is none besides You, nor is there any rock like our God. "Talk no more so very proudly; let no arrogance come from your mouth, for the LORD is the God of knowledge; and by Him actions are weighed. "The bows of the mighty men are broken, and those who stumbled are girded with strength.  Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, and the hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, and she who has many children has become feeble.

"The LORD kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up.  The LORD makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory. "For the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and He has set the world upon them. He will guard the feet of His saints, but the wicked shall be silent in darkness. "For by strength no man shall prevail. The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken in pieces; from heaven He will thunder against them. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth. "He will give strength to His king, and exalt the horn of His anointed."  Samuel 2:1-10

'Then it shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth, who shall hear all the good that I do to them; they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the prosperity that I provide for it.' Jeremiah 33:9

But to you who fear My name  The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings;  And you shall go out  And grow fat like stall-fed calves.  You shall trample the wicked, For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet  On the day that I do this," Says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 4:2-
