ANSWER YOU

 I Did It My Way?

Samuel also said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you king over His people, over Israel. Now therefore, heed the voice of the words of the LORD. "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt.   'Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.' "

So Saul gathered the people together and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men of Judah.  And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and lay in wait in the valley.

Then Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, get down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

And Saul attacked the Amalekites, from Havilah all the way to Shur, which is east of Egypt.  He also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed. 1 Samuel 15:1-9

Frank Sinatra had a popular hit song titled “My Way.” He must have been thinking of king Saul when he sang the words “I did it my way!”. But King Saul was a total failure as far as God was concerned.  Sure King Saul had the praise and gratitude of men but not of God because he failed to heed the voice of the words of the LORD to  “go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.”

As a result of his foolishness,  Saul not only lost his kingdom but his life was cut short by God.  Saul never made it into the Faith’s hall of fame for his disobedience and his claim to fame was:

So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance.  But he did not inquire of the LORD; therefore He killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.  1 Chronicles 10:13-14

We see from the word of God that it’s possible to obey God in part and do things “my way” rather than God’s way and be rejected by God for rejecting “His way?”  How many people will find themselves when standing before God after life is over in a place they never expected to be because they had done things their way rather than God’s way.

Now Jesus  Christ who is our example never did things His way. As a matter of fact God’s word records for our profit and instruction:

"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Matthew 7:21

Then one said to Him, "Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You."

But He answered and said to the one who told Him, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?"  And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers!  "For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother." Matthew 12:47-50

Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. John 4:34

"I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me. John 5:30

"For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. John 6:38

For Jesus and for all the true brothers and sisters of Jesus, the primary importance in life is doing the will of the Father and not their own will! Mind you the world, flesh and devil do not like doing God’s will but rather their own will. But God’s word is unchanging:

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Father but is of the world.  And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 1 John 2:15-20

Those who are off the world do what the world does and those who are off God do what God wants them to do!  Here is the difference between those who are truly born of the Spirit and those who think they are. Those who are born of the Spirit desire and chase after God’s will while the others do not! The worldly or carnal ones fail to understand that:

Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?  You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"?

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud,  But gives grace to the humble." James 4:1-6

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for  "God resists the proud,  But gives grace to the humble."

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,  casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.

But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 1 Peter 5:5-10
