GOOD NEWS

TRANSFORMING POWER

These words which I command you today shall be in your heart. —Deuteronomy 6:6

Many people love to play games that test their knowledge. Recently, a colleague and I were testing a Bible-knowledge game. Since we were seated in an open area of our office, those nearby could hear our conversation. Soon questions ranging from Noah’s ark to the woman at the well were being answered by those within earshot of us. It was a delight to hear various staff members volunteering responses to Bible questions.

A knowledge of the Bible is important, but God desires us to be saturated with His Word and to internalize it so we can grow in our relationship with Him. The Holy Spirit uses the Word to make us more like Christ (Eph. 4:20-24). Consider these benefits of internalizing the Bible: joy and rejoicing (Jer. 15:16); spiritual success (Josh. 1:8); a tool in spiritual warfare (Matt. 4:1-11); correction (2 Tim. 3:15-16); light for our path (Ps. 119:105); wisdom with problem solving (Prov. 1:1-2); and stimulating faith (Rom. 10:17).

Learning about the Bible just to increase our knowledge can lead to spiritual pride (1 Cor. 8:1). But allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us by the Word helps us navigate through life’s twists and turns and respond in love to God and to each other.

My hunger for the truth He satisfies;
Upon the Word, the Living Bread, I feed:
No parching thirst I know, because His grace,
A pool of endless depth, supplies my need.

Many books can inform, but only the Bible can transform.

MEET THE LIVING WORD :

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12

The living Word of Almighty God is the only power strong enough to discipline your flesh. It's the only power that can cause you to think, look, talk and act like a born-again man.

When I became a Christian, I was dominated by a horrible smoking habit. I tried to quit every way I could think of but nothing worked. After months of struggling and failing, I decided to attend some meetings in Hilton Sutton's church in Houston, Texas. Before I went into those meetings, I tucked my cigarettes above the sun visor in my car and left them there.

Up to that time, I hadn't learned much of anything about the Word and had never been exposed to the power of God. So when I began to hear those ministers preaching under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, it captivated my mind. I was caught up in the living Word. My desires changed. All I wanted was more of God. For the first time in my life, the Scriptures came alive.

When those meetings ended and I started driving back home, I found those old, stale cigarettes tucked up in my sun visor and realized I hadn't even missed them.

What happened? The Word separated me from the desire to smoke. The Word empowered me to discipline this flesh of mine. When I saw Jesus in the Word and under the anointing of Almighty God, I was totally set free, not only of the habit but of the desire!

Get caught up in the living Word today and discover the power that can set you forever free.

THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL

The good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ is to tell people that Jesus Christ the anointed one who is the same yesterday today and forever a savior, healer, deliverer, baptizer with the Holy Spirit and a miracle worker. And to offer people anything less than the whole Jesus is to rob them of their birthright as Christians.

Matthew 4:24 Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

COME AS YOU ARE AND RECEIVE :

MATTHEW 15:27 - And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

Come as you are to the Lord with your need, and lean on His unfailing and unconditional love for you. You don’t have to pretend to be more than what you are to receive the blessing you need from God. You don’t have to pretend to be someone else to appear more deserving to receive from God.

A Canaanite woman desperately seeking healing for her demon-possessed daughter came to Jesus. (Matthew 15:22–28) Knowing that He healed and did miracles among the Jews, she pretended to be a Jew, calling out, “O Lord, Son of David!” (Only the Jews addressed Jesus as the “Son of David”.) Jesus did not answer her. His silence made her drop her pretense and cry out, “Lord, help me!”

Only when her pretenses had melted away did she see the grace of God extended to her. Jesus made a way for her to receive her miracle even though it was not yet time for the Gentiles to receive His blessings. He told her, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

Many people might be offended at being called a “dog”. Actually, the Greek word used here by Jesus means “puppy”, and is thus an affectionate rather than offensive term. So this woman was not offended. In fact, she knew then that she could receive healing for her daughter because even puppies get to eat what falls from their masters’ table.

She saw that the crumbs under the Master’s table were enough for a Gentile, a “little dog”, like herself. You must understand that the Jews then considered Gentiles dogs. But what Jesus was trying to say was that He was called to the Jews first, not the Gentiles. Yet, He loved this Gentile woman and her daughter enough to provide a “loophole” for them to receive their miracle.

So when the Canaanite woman took her place by dropping the title “Son of David” and just leaned on Jesus’ compassion for her, her daughter was healed from that very hour.

If God was willing to extend His grace to a Gentile, how much more you, His beloved child! You do not need to depend on pretensions to receive a miracle from Him. Come as you are and lean on His grace. If He has delivered Jesus up for us, “how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things”? (Romans 8:32)

GROWING THROUGH DIFFICULTY :

These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold... - 1 Peter 1:7, NLT

One thing we have to realize is that God is not going to deliver us from every difficulty. He is not going to keep us from every challenge. If He did, we would never grow. The Scripture says, “Our faith is tried in the fire of affliction.” When you’re in a tough time, that’s an opportunity for your faith to shine.

Anybody can get negative and bitter, blame God, or lose their passion. That’s easy. But if you want to pass the test, if you want God to take you to a new level, you cannot be a weakling. You’ve got to be a warrior. Dig your heels in and say like Paul, “I can handle it. I’m ready for it. I’m equal to it. I know God is still on the throne. He is fighting my battles, and on the other side of this difficulty is a new level of my destiny!”

CHOOSE TO LOVE TODAY …

If you ask most people what love is, they will tell you that it’s a feeling or emotion. We certainly do describe what we feel for people as love, but true, biblical love is isn’t about the way we feel. The Bible says to choose love. That means love is a choice. It’s the choice to treat others according to God’s Word rather than according to what we feel because let’s face it, we don’t always feel like being loving.

It’s easy to love the people who love you back. It’s easy to be patient and kind to people who are patient and kind to you. But, what about the people who are frustrating and irritating? What about the people who constantly rub you the wrong way or don’t ever seem to do things the way you want them to? I call these people “sandpaper” people. This is when you need to make the choice to love. God isn’t going to give you a “pass” and say, “Oh, don’t worry about loving them; they irritate me, too.” No, God is love. Love is God. When we choose love, we are choosing God and His ways.

If God says to show love, that means it’s possible. He wouldn’t ask you do something that you couldn’t. But sometimes, we have to love by faith. See, you don’t need faith for the things you have. You need faith for the things you don’t have. If you don’t have love for someone, you can show love by faith. You can do what it says in first Corinthians 13 and be patient and kind and believe for the best in others. The fastest way to change your feelings is to change your actions!

I love what it says in Colossians 3:12-14, we are to “put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering.” We are to “bear with one another”—especially those sandpaper people—and we are to forgive one another. But then it says, “Above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” Love is what holds us together and binds us to Christ.

Just as you chose what to wear today, you can choose how to treat people. You can choose love. Remember, those people who are difficult to love are the ones who need it the most. Love is choice, so choose love today!

FORGET NOT HIS BENEFITS

 Psalms 103:
1    Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2    Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:
3    Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,
4    Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5    Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
6    The LORD executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed.
7    He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.
8    The LORD is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
9    He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever.
10    He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.
11    For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
12    As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13    As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those who fear Him.
14    For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.
15    As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16    For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more.
17    But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children,
18    To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them.
19    The LORD has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all.
