God Is Rich
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. Romans 10:12
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
I was raised up in a fundamentalist Baptist Church that believed and taught that poverty, sickness and suffering were the will of God and richest and wealth were of the devil! The down side was you could not pray for health and wealth if God doesn’t want you to have it according to their very bad report!
True faith requires that you believe that God wants you to be healthy and wealthy no matter what the circumstances and He will do it for you just like He did for Job. James tells us Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord-that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful (James 5:11)! And the bible God’s word tells us about Job:
Now the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. He also had seven sons and three daughters. And he called the name of the first Jemimah, the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-Happuch. In all the land were found no women so beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations. So Job died, old and full of days. Job 42:12-17
There was no discussion in the bible that God wanted Job to be poor and sick or that God afflicted him with loss and sickness? Rather it was the Devil who stole Job’s wealth and made him sick with boils. It was God who restored Job’s wealth double what he originally had and restored him to perfect health demonstrating His will for a righteous blameless friend! Those who believe God wants His people sick don’t know God at all because then Jesus disobeyed God’s will by healing and delivering the sick and afflicted. The bible clearly states:
Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. Matthew 4:24
"The LORD has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys. Genesis 24:35
He also brought them out with silver and gold, And there was none feeble among His tribes. Psalm 103:37
"Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, You who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were hewn, And to the hole of the pit from which you were dug. Look to Abraham your father, And to Sarah who bore you; For I called him alone, And blessed him and increased him." For the LORD will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the LORD; Joy and gladness will be found in it, Thanksgiving and the voice of melody. Isaiah 51:1-3
You shall drink the milk of the Gentiles, And milk the breast of kings; You shall know that I, the LORD, am your Savior And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. "Instead of bronze I will bring gold, Instead of iron I will bring silver, Instead of wood, bronze, And instead of stones, iron. I will also make your officers peace, And your magistrates righteousness. Violence shall no longer be heard in your land, Neither wasting nor destruction within your borders; But you shall call your walls Salvation, And your gates Praise. Isaiah 60:17-18
Yes, the bible teaches that God blesses with and gives silver and gold to His people just like He did to Abraham! Mind you God’s word doesn’t say we are to seek silver and gold with all our hearts? Rather it states
And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the LORD. 2 Chronicles 12:14
Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul; 2 Chronicles 15:12
And in the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa became diseased in his feet, and his malady was severe; yet in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians. 2 Chronicles 16:12
The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing. Psalm 34:10
Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore! Psalm 105:5
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the LORD! Isaiah 31:1
Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7
Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you. Hosea 10:12
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:63
The blessings of God come to those who seek the Lord and not upon those who seek the blessings! But Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace and He desires that His people have peace. In Hebrews the word Peace is Shalom. And Shalom is completeness, wholeness, peace, health, welfare, safety, soundness, tranquility, prosperity, fullness, perfectness, harmony, the absence of agitation and the absence of discord. Shalom means completeness and wholeness in all areas. Yes, God wants His people to live in Peace and be made whole body, soul and spirit as well as financially God’s word is true:
Arise, O LORD; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah Psalm 3:7-8
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 3 John 1:2-4
Larry Ollison tells us that the bible teaches that prosperity is the will of God:
1) God desires for us to prosper.
Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant” (Psalm 35:27).
2) God teaches us to profit.
Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go” (Isaiah 48:17).
3) Receiving is the result of giving and God wants us to give.
Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you (Luke 6:38).
4) God adds things to us when we seek first His kingdom.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33).
5) We are commanded to honor the LORD with our increase. Therefore, increase must be of God.
Honor the LORD with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine (Proverbs 3:9,10).
6) God empowers us to get wealth.
And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day (Deuteronomy 8:18).
7) God gives us all things that pertain to life.
As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (2 Peter 1:3,4).
8) God’s blessing is riches without sorrow.
The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22).
9) God supplies all my needs according to His riches.
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
10) Jesus delivered us from poverty.
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9).
Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant” (Psalm 35:27).
