If You Would Believe?
Though the LORD is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands. Psalm 138:6-8
Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, "Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days." Jesus said to her, "Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?" John 11:38-40
Our LORD Jesus Christ is not only the same yesterday, today, and forever and never changes but all authority has been given to Him in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). He has power to do whatever needs to be done including answering the prayers of the humble and bringing down the proud and arrogant ones! He is also faithful to His word and performs what He says (Numbers 23:19). He keeps up His promise to His people and never puts them to shame (Isaiah 45:17, 49:23, 54:4). He has promised Instead of your shame you shall have double honor (Isaiah 61:7) But instead of trusting such an awesome God, we put our trust in people and their views and opinions which usually ends in disappointment and woe. God’s word is unchanging:
"Woe to the rebellious children," says the LORD, "Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin; Who walk to go down to Egypt, And have not asked My advice, To strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, And to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore the strength of Pharaoh Shall be your shame, And trust in the shadow of Egypt Shall be your humiliation. For his princes were at Zoan, And his ambassadors came to Hanes. They were all ashamed of a people who could not benefit them, Or be help or benefit, But a shame and also a reproach." Isaiah 30:1-5
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the LORD! Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, And will not call back His words, But will arise against the house of evildoers, And against the help of those who work iniquity. Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; And their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, Both he who helps will fall, And he who is helped will fall down; They all will perish together. Isaiah 31:1-3
Death is the finality of all things? But in the Bible we see that even four days after the death of Lazarus, Lord Jesus performed an awesome miracle. He told Martha who was being unbelieving in the resurrection of Lazarus, "Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?" After praying to His Father, He cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Loose him, and let him go."
The same Jesus who raised Lazarus form the dead is alive and well to do miracles for those who believe! He will never put to shame those who have put their trust in Him! We are not grumble about our insufficiencies and worry about our inabilities. The psalmist David says, “The Lord will perfect that which concerns me” (Psalm 138:8) and God did perfect that which concerned him. Similarly, the Lord will perfect that which concerns us. We are to trust in the Lord and wait on Him in prayer and receive His blessings and miracles for He loves us and is concerned about us! And He told us your Father knows that you need these things:
Then He said to His disciples, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. "Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. "Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? "And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? "If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? "Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. "If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? "And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. "For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. "But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. "Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:22-32
Yes we are to seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to us. We are not to fear, for it is our Father's good pleasure to give us the kingdom - All of it! And best of all we have a miracle working Jesus who is in us for us and not against us! The bible tells us:
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. 1 John 4:4
Apostle Paul was on a journey to Rome to be brought before Caesar in Rome to testify to the gospel of the grace of God and for Jesus. He had warned his crew members "Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship, but also our lives." Nevertheless the centurion was more persuaded by the helmsman and the owner of the ship than by the things spoken by Paul. Nevertheless a tempestuous head wind arose and caught the ship and they could not head into the wind, but let her drive. And because they were exceedingly tempest-tossed, they lightened the ship. And even threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands. Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on them all hope that they would be saved was finally given up. The bible tells us:
But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them and said, "Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and loss. 2 "And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. "For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, "saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.' "Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me. "However, we must run aground on a certain island." Acts 27:21-26
And sure enough they had escaped, and run aground an island that was called Malta where the natives showed them unusual kindness; for they kindled a fire and made us all welcome, because of the rain that was falling and because of the cold. But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live." But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. However, they were expecting that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had looked for a long time and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.
God had a real purpose to bringing Paul to this island so that he could be a blessing to the people. The bible records:
In that region there was an estate of the leading citizen of the island, whose name was Publius, who received us and entertained us courteously for three days. And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him. So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed. Acts 28:7-9
Well God has a plan and purpose for our lives and He will bring us through the storms of life that we encounter. He will do miracles for us just like He did for Paul so that we can also be a blessing to others just as Jesus promised:
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. John 14:12-14
