While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue's house who said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?" As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid; only believe." And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly. When He came in, He said to them, "Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping." And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, "Talitha, cumi," which is translated, "Little girl, I say to you, arise." Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement. Mark 5:35-42
A vessel with Jesus in it can never sink as the fearful and troubled disciples can testify to this truth! Similarly when Jesus is brought by faith into a negative situation there will be victory because nothing can stand against His great and wonderful power. The fleshy person believes what he sees while a believer sees what he believes. Jesus told Jairus to believe and keep seeing his daughter healed through the eye of faith instead of allowing distractions to get him off course. We are not to allow circumstances and other people to set our priorities for us. We are to see things through the eyes of faith instead of what lies before us —or they will ultimately bring us off course. When we walk in the Spirit, we see things from God’s point of view; when we walk in the flesh, we see things from man’s perspective. And it is always better to see from God’s point of view because God always wins. His word is unchanging:
“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is there anything too hard for Me?” Jeremiah 32:27
“For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south” Psalm 75:6.
There isn’t anything too hard for God who reigns and rules over all. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, "What have You done?" He is the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down. (Daniel 4:34-37)! "He kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up. He makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and He has set the world upon them. (1 Samuel 2:6-8). He is the God who delivered praying Daniel from the den of lions and destroyed his enemies with the same lions. He can heal a person or cancer or aids, make him extremely rich and a great man or woman of God. He will go to any length to make sure His anointed ones are protected; He’ll even reprove kings for their sake. He will do all His pleasure. God’s word is unchanging:
He permitted no one to do them wrong; Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes, Saying, "Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm." Moreover He called for a famine in the land; He destroyed all the provision of bread. He sent a man before them- Joseph-who was sold as a slave. They hurt his feet with fetters, He was laid in irons. Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the LORD tested him. The king sent and released him, The ruler of the people let him go free. He made him lord of his house, And ruler of all his possessions, To bind his princes at his pleasure, And teach his elders wisdom. Psalm 105:14-22
Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, 'My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,' Isaiah 46:9-19
The enemy has only power over us if we walk in the flesh! But if we walk in the Spirit we are more than conquerors s through Him who loved us and gave His life for us! Yes we are to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might and are to put on the whole armor of God, that we might be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. And we need to take up the whole armor of God, that we may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand (Ephesians 6:10).
We put off all anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of our mouth, lying. We put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. As the elect of God, holy and beloved, we put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave us, so we do also. And above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. (Colossians 3:8-14).
Since selfishness is the fuel that feeds the flesh we overcome selfishness by identifying the things that occupy our mind and do those things for someone else. When we do something great for someone else, we starve our flesh. The quickest way for us to get things to happen for us is to make them happen for someone else. Yes, the measure we measure to others will be the measure that is measured back to us. Whatever we want men to do for us, we do also to them but we do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast our pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear us in pieces. And we rejoice in the fact that, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” God’s word is true:
"Judge not, that you be not judged. "For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. "And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. "Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. "Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? "Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:1-12
