And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:1-5
Part of the Great Commission that Jesus gave us in Mark 16:15-20 is that we are to lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. Yes, our faith should be in the power of God and not in the wisdom of men with their dead words devoid of miracles, signs and wonders? How many sick people have we prayed for lately? Probably not many! A sure sign our faith is in the wrong place! Nevertheless God’s word is unchanging:
"Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, 'Here I am.' "If you take away the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, If you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday. The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In. Isaiah 58:6-12
If we are not blessed or healed by God it’s our own fault because we are not doing the right kind of fast that He has chosen for us to do. It’s there in the word of God what God’s people are clearly commanded to do! When God’s people do what they are supposed to do, then will they enjoy the benefits of God’s word. Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, 'Here I am.' Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, and your darkness shall be as the noonday. It’s doers of the word, and not hearers only who will be blessed in what they do. God’s word is unchanging:
But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. James 1:25-27
By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18
It’s doers of the Word and God’s commandments, not hearers nor confessors only, who have the right to the tree of life and may enter through the gates into the heavenly Jerusalem. Not those who just profess and confess the faith but are devoid of true works and deeds of righteousness.
Many think that giving God ‘mental assent’ is enough to be “In Christ Jesus” and to enter into the Heavenly Kingdom. If this were really true many more would fill God’s Heavenly Kingdom than do right now. But this is not true for God desires all of a man’s heart, soul and mind, not just the little morsel he throws Him on his way to the racetrack or shopping center or church hall. God’s desire all of him. His desires, his thoughts, his dreams, his passions and pleasures should all be toward Him.
Now God in Christ Jesus judges with equity and fairness. He doesn’t judge based on the premises of men—position, power, prominence, beauty or financial position. He judges based on the motives that He finds within the human heart. Man often cannot judge his own motives. He does not see how corrupt his desires are. He walks in his self-centeredness and then wonders why he is not hearing from God.
No one, Christian or other, will hear from God if he doesn’t face his shortcomings and bend his knee to the truth of what’s really in him or her. Man is born with a natural ability to sin. Man touts the importance of all things ‘natural’ forgetting that the most natural thing in the world is to behave selfishly and protect self and not be his brother’s keeper. This is purely natural. Yet, God has called His people to behave supernaturally - to live in the Spiritual realm and to walk in the ways of the Holy Spirit and the written Word of God.
Yet, they continue not to understand what He desires from them. They pay lip-service, or they try a little, some actually attain a slightly closer walk to Him, others appear to be doing Him service yet their hearts are far from Him. The sad part is they ‘think’ they are doing His perfect will yet they are missing the finer points of His truth. They have interpreted His Word in such a way and it is not what He really meant. They have missed the meaning behind the words and therefore missed the truth all together. They have no real understanding and therefore end up teaching what appears to be truth but is not truth. A literal lie clothed in what is supposed to be truth.
The sad part is God’s sheep believe and accept this teaching from men as God’s ultimate truth and live their lives according to it resulting in loss of life, peace, joy and His personal safety. They are living on the fringes of the faith—not in the portals of the true faith. They are living inq deceptions established by men and women misguided by the doctrines of demons. Nevertheless God’s word is unchanging:
For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. 1 John 3:20-24
