HIS GLORY

Until The Spirit Is Poured Upon Us

So he answered and said to me:  "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:  'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,'  Says the LORD of hosts.  'Who are you, O great mountain?  Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!  And he shall bring forth the capstone  With shouts of "Grace, grace to it!" ' "  Zechariah 4:6-7

The Holy Spirit has been treated as the mysterious silent part of the Trinity that is more Ghost like than a real person and part of the God head that she is. The Holy Spirit in nature and character is more feminine than masculine. She is extremely sensitive, gentle and can be grieved easily.  The bible refers to the Holy Spirit  as female gender. When God created heaven and earth He relied on His counselor, the Holy Spirit, to do it and work out the details. The bible records:

Happy is the man who finds wisdom,  And the man who gains understanding;  For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver,  And her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies,  And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.  Length of days is in her right hand,  In her left hand riches and honor.  Her ways are ways of pleasantness,  And all her paths are peace.  She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her,  And happy are all who retain her.

The LORD by wisdom founded the earth;  By understanding He established the heavens;  By His knowledge the depths were broken up,  And clouds drop down the dew.  Proverbs 3:13-20

The Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,  the Spirit of counsel and might,  and the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord played a very integral part in founding the earth, establishing the heavens, established the clouds above,  strengthening the fountains of the deep,  and  assigning  to the sea its limit. So She is not someone to be taken lightly, ignored or used at will.  For She is a real person with emotions of likes and dislikes and pleasures who has existed forever. The bible records:

"The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way,  Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting,  From the beginning, before there was ever an earth.  When there were no depths I was brought forth,  When there were no fountains abounding with water.  Before the mountains were settled,  Before the hills, I was brought forth;

While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields,  Or the primeval dust of the world.  When He prepared the heavens, I was there,  When He drew a circle on the face of the deep,

When He established the clouds above,  When He strengthened the fountains of the deep, When He assigned to the sea its limit,  So that the waters would not transgress His command,  When He marked out the foundations of the earth, Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;  And I was daily His delight,  Rejoicing always before Him,  Rejoicing in His inhabited world,  And my delight was with the sons of men. Proverbs 8:22-31

The Holy Spirit is also the Spirit of truth, Her mouth  speaks only  truth. Wickedness is an abomination to Her lips. All the words of Her mouth are with righteousness and there is nothing crooked or perverse is in them. Her  wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with Her.  God’s word records:

"I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,  And find out knowledge and discretion.  The fear of the LORD is to hate evil;  Pride and arrogance and the evil way  And the perverse mouth I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom;  I am understanding, I have strength.

By me kings reign,  And rulers decree justice.  By me princes rule, and nobles, All the judges of the earth.   I love those who love me,  And those who seek me diligently will find me.

Riches and honor are with me,  Enduring riches and righteousness.  My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold,  And my revenue than choice silver.

I traverse the way of righteousness,  In the midst of the paths of justice,  That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth,  That I may fill their treasuries. Proverbs 8:12-21

For the record let set something straight about the Holy Spirit.  She hates evil, pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth. She loves those who love her and those who seek her diligently will find her. She gives enduring riches and honor and righteousness. Her fruit is better than gold and her revenue than choice silver.

The Holy Spirit traverses the ways of righteousness in the midst of the path of justice, that She  may cause those who love her to inherit wealth.  By her kings reign, rulers decree justice. By her princes, nobles and judges rule.  So who ever has the Holy Spirit or better still the Holy Spirit has them has a great wealth and treasure? But wise ones will also know of her love for justice and righteousness, which is an intrinsic part of God.

The Holy Spirit is also a person who brings about change on the land, institutions, nations and governments and sometimes catastrophic ones.  As in the case of  king Belshazzar the to whom prophet Daniel stated:

"O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom and majesty, glory and honor. "And because of the majesty that He gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whomever he wished, he executed; whomever he wished, he kept alive; whomever he wished, he set up; and whomever he wished, he put down.

"But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him. "Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses.

"But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this.  "And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

"Then the fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written.   "And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.  "This is the interpretation of each word. MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it;  "TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting;  "PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians."

Then Belshazzar gave the command, and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.  That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain.  And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old. Daniel 5:18-22

The Lord of heaven holds the breath in His hand and owns all the ways of each person on earth including a king. The Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses. But He also removes at will whomever He chooses. Especially those whose kingdom  has been  numbered and finished.  Those who have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting and hence their kingdom has been given to others. For God’s dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. His word is unchanging:

All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing;  He does according to His will in the army of heaven  And among the inhabitants of the earth.  No one can restrain His hand  Or say to Him, "What have You done?" Daniel 4:35

"When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:13-14

So God who rules in heaven and earth does His will in earth as in heaven. As a result on occasion He brings judgment upon the land be by  war, pestilence, famine or disaster to the land. If His people who are called by His name humble themselves, pray and seek His face and turn from their wicked ways then He hears from heaven, forgives their sin and heal their land.

God also brings real changes to the land by the outpouring of His Holy Spirit. The bible records:

Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high,  And the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, And the fruitful field is counted as a forest.   Then justice will dwell in the wilderness,  And righteousness remain in the fruitful field.  The work of righteousness will be peace,  And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.

My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation,  In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places,  Though hail comes down on the forest,  And the city is brought low in humiliation.  Blessed are you who sow beside all waters,  Who send out freely the feet of the ox and the donkey. Isaiah 32:15-20

"And it shall come to pass afterward  That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;  Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,  Your old men shall dream dreams,  Your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants  I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

"And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth:  Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness,  And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.

And it shall come to pass  That whoever calls on the name of the LORD  Shall be saved.  For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance,  As the LORD has said,  Among the remnant whom the LORD calls. Joel 2:28-32

So when the Holy Spirit is poured out on the land, then changes come to the land even personal ones. But it is the Holy Spirit who brings about the changes and God’s word is unchanging:

God is jealous, and the LORD avenges;  The LORD avenges and is furious.  The LORD will take vengeance on His adversaries,  And He reserves wrath for His enemies;  The LORD is slow to anger and great in power,  And will not at all acquit the wicked.  The LORD has His way  In the whirlwind and in the storm,  And the clouds are the dust of His feet.

He rebukes the sea and makes it dry,  And dries up all the rivers.  Bashan and Carmel wither,  And the flower of Lebanon wilts.  The mountains quake before Him,  The hills melt,  And the earth heaves at His presence,  Yes, the world and all who dwell in it. Who can stand before His indignation?  And who can endure the fierceness of His anger?  His fury is poured out like fire,  And the rocks are thrown down by Him.

The LORD is good,  A stronghold in the day of trouble;  And He knows those who trust in Him. But with an overflowing flood  He will make an utter end of its place,  And darkness will pursue His enemies. Nahum 1:2-8
