LIBERTY

The Anointing of Liberty

You are a son of God made free by the blood of Christ. You are not a slave but rather a member of the royal priesthood of kings. The same anointing that came on Jesus is the same anointing that comes on you. That anointing is the anointing of liberty. When we talk about liberty we are not just talking about liberty from the wages of sin and death but liberty —spirit, soul and body.
When the Holy Ghost comes on you so does his anointing of liberty. He is the Spirit of Liberty. The spirit of liberty will attack any and all forms of bondage from addictions, sickness and even enslavement from Leviathan statism. Statism repudiates individualism and exalts the state as god. Satan’s master strategy is to organize a society centralizing power under his demonic influence that turns men away from faith in God to faith in man’s secular humanistic state. Deliverance from the evil bondages of statism is found in the Exodus story. It spells out the deliverance of God’s covenant people from the wickedness of a government that progressively enslaved the people through debt servitude.
Understanding the anointing conflicts with all forms of slavery including sickness, addictions and debt servitude is difficult for some because their image of the anointing has been engineered through Christian television. Yet the biblical pattern from Genesis to Revelation reveals the anointing clashes with kingdoms of darkness. Paul described that clash as spiritual warfare against principalities and powers (Ephesians 6:12).
The English word liberty has lots of different meanings. To some it means freedom from rules and to others freedom from addictions. According to the Oxford Thesaurus liberty means,
  • freedom
  • independence
  • self-determination
  • and sovereignty.
It also means free, uninhibited, unfettered, unconstrained, unrestricted, unrestrained, and liberated.
The Liberty Bell is one of the most well known American images. When people look to it they are reminded of those that fought for liberty from unrighteous oppression such as taxation without representation. Tradition holds that the bell was rung to announce the opening of the First Continental Congress in 1774 and after the Battle of Lexington and Concord in 1775. Residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the Liberty Bell has over 2 million tourists come to see it annually. Inscribed on the bell is this text, “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land and to all the inhabitants thereof.” The bell’s inscription is taken from the Word of God. The full biblical text reads,
“And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you and ye shall return every man unto his possession and ye shall return every man unto his family.” (Leviticus 25:10)
Liberty in this scripture is the Hebrew word deror meaning freedom from the bondage of debt and debt servitude. The year of Jubilee was the liberation of God’s people. Liberty’s root meaning is to “move freely” as in unrestrained and unfettered. Those formerly enslaved because of debt bondage after having been liberated (deror) were restored the freedom to rejoin their families debt free and to move freely. In this sense liberty produced restoration and economic freedom. During Jubilee all prisoners and captives obtained their liberties, slaves were declared free, and debtors were absolved. That definition alone should give you a different perspective of the anointing of liberty.

JESUS AND THE SPIRIT OF LIBERTY

Jesus said the Spirit of the Lord anointed him to set at liberty. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised; To preach the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).
In this scripture liberty is the Greek word aphesis meaning freedom, pardon and deliverance. Notice the context of the anointing, “To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Again, the acceptable year of the Lord is the year of jubilee.
As already said Jubilee was the release from debt bondages and all prisoners and captives were set at liberty. It’s interesting that we don’t think of the anointing releasing people from debt servitude because we confine the anointing of the Holy Ghost to all things spiritual while ignoring the natural. When we don’t know what belongs to us then we can’t put our faith on it to receive.

CERTAIN UNALIENABLE RIGHTS

It’s not freedom from debt that I want to focus on in this essay but “the position of a liberated citizen of the Kingdom of God.” There is a high level demonic war going on in the spirit to stop you from living by faith in God. This is Satan’s master plan. He desires to turn you away from Spirit led living as a son of God toward his protection, provision, and a secular humanistic form of rule.

The born again disciple is not a slave but a free man in Christ. Jesus set you free. Who the Son sets free is free indeed. In other words, you are a free man with certain God given unalienable rights. Satan has no authority over these rights.

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1:4).
These promises are not subject to forfeiture and are rights that come from God alone and not any reprobate humanist’ ruler. These unalienable rights are never subject to forfeiture.

FREEDOM OF CHOICE

Liberty means freedom of choice. It is your right to choose a lifestyle of faith. When the right to live by faith in God is usurped by state, dictator, political party, unjust laws, or tyrant, that hindrance will conflict with your God given unalienable rights. That’s what happened in the Exodus story. Paul wrote “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any” (1 Corinthians 6:12). Instead Paul chose to walk in the Spirit of liberty. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Romans 8:14).
As you recall the anointing breaks every yoke and removes every burden from God’s people (Isaiah 10:27). But what if the one applying the yokes and burdens don’t want them removed? The answer is the Lord will hear the cries of his people and come down to deliver them just as He did for those in Egypt.

PEOPLE SET AT LIBERTY

As a citizen of the Kingdom of God you have rights (precious promises) that are never subject to forfeiture. They can be unjustly stolen or you can give them away. It’s these two losses of liberty that concerns our generation. Some of our God given liberty has been stolen because certain nation states think their citizens are chattel property. Not so. People around the world are not called to be slaves or serfs but are called to freedom. Scripture says to the born again believer you are part of “a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people.” The Geneva Bible, used by the Reformers, says that you are a “people set at liberty”(1 Peter 2:9). Kingdoms are doomed to complete and utter failure without liberty. Liberty is the power of free choice as free men pursue their God given gifts and callings. No socialists state, fascists state, or hybrid central planning oligarchy can ever have the knowledge or ability needed to achieve what God given liberty can accomplish.
Our generation needs a greater understanding of the anointing of liberty. Liberty comes from the Holy Ghost and walking in the Word. Christ is your redeemer. He is the head of the Church. He is the supreme potentate, the King of kings and the Lord of lords. As said in the beginning of this essay, you are not a slave but rather a member of the royal priesthood of kings. The same anointing that came on Jesus is the same anointing that comes on you. That anointing is the anointing of liberty.
