A Pure Heart

As I urged you when I went into Macedonia-remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine,  nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk,  desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm. 1 Timothy 1:3-7

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,  having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, 1:20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme. 1 Timothy 1:18-20

Most of the controversial Pauline doctrines such as a women must learn in silence with all submission and she is not permitted to teach or to have authority over a man, a women will be saved in childbearing if she continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control, poverty, not prosperity, is the will of God, all scripture, including the epistles, are divinely inspired of God, there must be appointed bishops in the church,  some Christians  will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, elders who rule well must be counted worthy of double honor, bondservants who  under the yoke must count their own masters worthy of all honor, we are to stir up the gift of God which is in us through the laying on of hands, we must  strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers, preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching comes from the books of Timothy. No other book in the New Testament establishes these ideas being God breathed and inspired? As a matter of fact the word of God tells us about Paul’s friend and companion Priscilla:

Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus.  This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John.  So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.  And when he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him; and when he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace;  for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ. Acts 18:24-28

Aquila and Priscilla took Apollos aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.  In other words Priscilla was not silent but taught a man? In other words love doesn't care what people say or do about their words and deeds but is more concerned about the person who needs their help. God's word is unchanging:

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.  For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!  I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:13-18

Yes, we are to be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;  distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. We bless those who persecute us. We rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. We are of the same mind toward one another. We repay no one evil for evil and we have regard for good things in the sight of all men. We overcome evil by good (Romans 12:10-21). God’s word is unchanging:

Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.   Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."  Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.  The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.  But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Romans 13:6-14
