A Deceitful Mouth, Perverse Lips
Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you. Proverbs 4:24
Therefore hear me now, my children, And do not depart from the words of my mouth. Proverbs 5:7
One of the foolish things that many of God’s people do is to approach the Word of God with preconceived ideas and teachings of men rather than with an open heart and mind to see what the Holy Spirit will teach them from the word. And yes the Holy Spirit is more than able to teach and guide each of God’s children into all truth and to be their all. God’s word is unchanging:
There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. His delight is in the fear of the LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears; But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Isaiah 11:1-4
Yes the Spirit of the LORD can rest upon them, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. As a result their delight will be in the fear of the LORD, and they shall not judge by the sight of their eyes, nor decide by the hearing of their ears; but with righteousness they shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; they shall strike the earth with the rod of their mouth, and with the breath of their lips shall slay the wicked. They shall take counsel of the Lord and devise plans, that are of His Spirit, so that they may not add sin to sin by trusting in others. They will look to the LORD who is wise and will arise against the house of evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity (Isaiah 30:1-5, 31:1-3). God’s word is unchanging:
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For "who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:12-16
Since the mind is the control center of our life; it determines our destiny. Hence the Word of God admonishes that by the mercies of God, we present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is our reasonable service. And not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that we may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. By taking every thought captive and aligning our thoughts with God’s way of thinking—His Word—we will walk in continuous victory in theory for we have the mind the Christ. We are products of our thoughts.
The Word of God tells us for as man thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). So in theory we can change our life by changing our mindset. Right thinking precedes right actions and we are to recognize that they are many sources of thoughts including God, Satan, and our carnal nature. However the problem with most of God’s people is not just their mindset or the sources of their thoughts but the fact that they don’t appreciate that they have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. They can think and speak things not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. Many of God’s people accept the words of others including their pastor or some spiritual father to influence and guide above the words and thoughts that they Holy Spirit gives. And if the premises of their thinking is wrong and false and is not inspired and implemented by the Holy Spirit, they will not prosper or be successful for they don’t have the mind of Christ but the mindset of men! Yet God’s word is unchanging:
"Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. "And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God: "Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. "Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. "Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. "Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. (Deuteronomy 28:1-6)
Many Christians blame the Devil for all the trouble in their lives, while others say that it’s their worldly, sinful mindsets that is at fault by the real failure is to have the mind of Christ as given by the Holy Spirit. Failure to hear and heed the voice of God on a continual and daily basis will result in all other failures and lack of prosperity. Deception occurs in our hearts and lives when we assume something that others have taught or said to us as though it was God who said it, when He did not. To avoid any form of deception and error we literally have to check all our thinking and suggestions and words from others with the Holy Spirit who is more than willing and able to speak to us, teach us, and lead and guide us into all truth and things! We are the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives inside us and is more than able to help us in and with anything and everything! Living and walking in the Spirit includes praying in the Spirit continually and allowing the Spirit to make the Word of God alive to our Spirit and bring needed revelation and instruction about all things. God who made and sustains heaven and earth is more than enough to guide and instruct us in all things if we could only get past our carnal mindset! We not only need the grace of God but the communion of the Holy Spirit! God’s word is unchanging:
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. 2 Corinthians 13:14
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30
If we grieve the Holy Spirit and don’t have the communion of the Holy Spirit, it doesn’t matter how we think, say or do, we are in serious trouble and are like a train that is derailed and of the track. We will be spinning our wheels going nowhere fast! Many failures and defeats in our lives can be traced to the fact that we didn’t depend upon the Holy Spirit or use the services of ministering angels who have been assigned to us. God’s word is unchanging:
That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. 2 Timothy 1:14
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, Jude 1:20
Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation? Hebrews 1:14
Jesus who is our example and our live was totally dependent on the Holy Spirit for all things and availed Himself of angels who came and ministered to him. And so should we. God’s word is unchanging:
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. …Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. Matthew 4:1-11
Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD." Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." Luke 4:14-20
Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. Luke 5:17
